Department of Religion

This course presents the beliefs and practices of Hinduism, from the earliest to the modern era, through its major primary texts: select Vedic hymns and Upanisads, portions of the Laws of Manu, the Mahabharata, and Puranas. The nature of the Divine and spirit, the practice of dharma and yogic methods of realizing the Self will be focused on through a close reading of assigned texts, assisted by insights from traditional and modern commentators.
