Certificate students are required to take four courses that comprise twelve credits:
- "Theory and Method in the Study of Religion" (16:840:501).
- Of the other three required courses, normally these should be at the 500-level, although one 300-level course and one 400-level course are also permitted.
- One required course may be taken in another department within Rutgers or at another university.
